What's your favorite part about living on campus?

I love my independence. I'm such a homebody and I love hanging out with my family, and originally, I wasn't going to live on campus, but my parents told me that they thought it's a great way to get the college experience. I just feel like I've gained so much individuality from everything.

What is the best part of your housing unit?

My window and my tree. I love being able to open my window and see the beautiful tree, and it's supposed to start blooming soon. It fills the whole room with the smell of flowers when I open it.

What is one thing in your dorm that you couldn't live without?

My humidifier. I was told that I really didn't need one, but it's just become kind of my routine to turn it on in the morning.

What is one thing you forgot that you think everyone should bring with them when they move up to campus?

A suitcase. It might seem trivial, but living just 20 minutes away, I'm constantly back and forth, needing something to carry all my stuff in. If you bring everything in boxes or trash bags, you don't have anything to easily move from place to place. I find myself living out of my suitcase sometimes.

Are you a night owl or a morning bird?

I'm not a night owl, but in the mornings, I'm up around 5:30 or 6:00 every day. I make my coffee, sit in my bed, and journal as part of my morning routine. It's peaceful. Nobody's up yet, so you have to be quiet, but I enjoy starting my day that way.

What's a piece of advice you would give to someone moving into campus housing this fall?

Don't hesitate to voice your opinion. If something isn't right in your dorm or if you're uncomfortable with something or someone, learn to value your own opinion and speak up. I had to learn that the hard way; things don't always go as planned, but I've learned to come out of my shell and not be afraid.
